A
My family are crazy about baseball. My grandpa coached his team to two College World Series and won them both. My father played for three different colleges and was asked to try out for the Los Angeles Angels. Minutes before I was born, my parents and all the nurses were watching Field of Dreams — a film about baseball. Throughout my primary school, the only thing I got to do except playing baseball games was practice. It seems like I should be really good at baseball because I practiced almost every day. But it was not the case.
When my dad or grandpa asked me if I wanted to practice, my answer was always “no”. And the amount of effort I put in was extremely low. I wouldn’t hit the ball hard, I wouldn’t throw the ball exactly, and I wouldn’t move actively on the field. However, they soon learned that they just wouldn’t ask any more; they would simply make me go whether I liked it or not. And they didn’t mind how bad I did on the field.
Things went on for years until I went to college.
I finally found out why my grandpa and my dad forced me to practice every day. They didn’t do that because they wanted me to get better, but because they were just trying to share a special part of their life with me. Once I learned their motive behind the practices, I started to enjoy playing baseball and spending time with them.
Now, whenever my dad asks me if I want to go to play baseball, my answer is always “yes”. The experience has taught me the useful life lesson of finding out why someone does something before I jump to conclusions.
