Tenyearold Julia and her new ninemonthold puppy—Walter are a unique (独一无二的) pair. Both have been deaf since birth, and now,Julia is training Walter with sign language.
Julia's family rescued Walter from the Pasadena Humane Society and SPCA in California.“When I first held Julia since she couldn't really hear my voice she would smell my neck. And when I first held Walter,he did almost the exact same thing.I remember looking at him and I just knew he was meant to be ours,”Julia's mother Chrissy said in a video.
Julia has taught Walter various sign language commands, such as “sit”,as well as the signs for “food” and “water”.The two are practically inseparable. Julia's mother notes that Walter waits for Julia to finish her homework so they can play in the backyard together.
“She's learned a whole other kind of love,” says Chrissy.“I think they were both meant to find each other.”
Jamie Holeman, community relations associate at Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA,told CBS News that someone had found the sixweekold baby dog and brought it to the shelter.“He was overlooked (忽略;忽视) by people who were not looking for a dog that couldn't hear,” she said.
But it's clear Walter has found the perfect home with Julia and Chrissy.“Walter is my best friend,” says Julia.
