SEATTLE-Washington voters have narrowly approved an initiative(优先权) that clears the way for up to 40 charter schools to be opened in the state over the next five years. Washington becomes the 42nd state to allow the public independent schools.
But opponents weren't willing to acknowledge defeat on Monday.
"It's a close race," said Marianne Bichsel, spokeswoman for People for Our Public Schools, which opposed the measure. "We are going to wait until every vote is counted."
